A Strand of Three
I have heard it said that most people deny the claims of Christ for moral reasons and not intellectual ones.I think Ravi Zacharias states this. When I consider the wealth of evidences that converge to confirm the Deity of Jesus the Messiah my heart often aches for those who fear to face the real malady with which they struggle. I feel their pain. I know their pain. For those looking for more evidences of the claims of Christ to combat their intellectual ascent though (if it be true), here are some claims to consider, specifically concerning the fact that Jesus is God (Yahweh/Creator). An oldie but a goody is the oft attributed to CS Lewis, “Lord, Liar, Lunatic” apologetic:
Jesus’ disciple and closest friend, John the Beloved, in his Gospel presentation quotes Jesus, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.“John 14:6 Based on this exclusive truth claim, was Jesus Lord, Liar or Lunatic? According to the dictates of logic, he cannot be all three. How do you read?
How about Jesus’ words here: “And now, Father, glorify me in your own presence with the glory that I had with you before the world existed.” John 17:5
How about these?:
Matt 2:2 — John 1:14 — John 5:18 — John 8:58 — John 20:28 — Romans 10:13-14 — Colossians 2:9 — Philippians 2:5-8 — Hebrews 1:8
How about the testimony of the contemporary secular historian Josephus?: “About this time there lived Jesus, a wise man, if indeed one ought to call him a man….”[Read more: Josephus’ Account of Jesus The Testimonium Flavianum ]
The above are just a few examples, twelve evidences, that help to comprise the rope of faith by which I hang from the Creator. If you were to credibly discount 9 of the 12, 3 would remain…and a cord of three is not easily broken. And add to this the philosophical and scientific evidences of which I am so fond and my faith is not blind…reasonable in fact.
